A Big Mess at RFK

Game 24, Mets at Nationals

The Mets and Nationals played a rain-shortened eight-inning game, with the Nationals coming away with the win, 5-3. Apparently, neither team was very happy about having to play the game with poor field condiditons. It seems a lot of standing water remained on the field during play, and led to several miscues by the players as they battled the conditions. Why the umpires made them play I don't know. Apparently the Mets are really P.O.'d about it and may seek a forfeit. Both clubs played the game under protest.

CBS Sportsline reports that both clubs were very critical of the umpiring crew after the game. Frank Robinson was ejected in the eighth for arguing with the umpires about field conditions.

Tomo Ohka filled-in for Zach Day, who was sick, and pitched six shut-out innings. Nick Johnson and Ryan Church homered for the Nats as they built a 5-0 lead that stood until the Mets got three in the eighth.
